For quite awhile many of us have been keeping a wary eye on America’s flirtation with socialism. And during that time, many of us who dared to point it out have been pooh-poohed by our intellectual “betters” as being “out of touch”.
But a new study released by the Heritage Foundation affirms that liberal flirtation with socialistic ideals antithetical to American values has indeed blossomed into a full-blown “embrace” (if not yet a de facto marriage).
Transforming America from a free, liberty loving country to a Euro-Socialist state has been the dream of socialists/communists for decades. In fact, the movement got a jump-start in the “progressivism” of the Wilson administration from 1913-1921.
Woodrow Wilson, a Presbyterian steeped in Marxist thought, viewed capitalism as anti-Christian. He believed it was the Christian’s duty to formulate government that would care for the working classes whom he saw as members of society to be patronized for their votes (even though women didn’t gain the right to vote until 1920) to create a new world order.
It is to be noted that liberals never suffer compunctions about separation of church and state when it comes to doling out the national treasury, but are apoplectic when the church attempts to curb social pathologies deemed egalitarian by the left.
For almost a century Wilson’s anti-American ideas have fermented and morphed most dramatically into Obama’s Orwellian attempts to capture one-sixth of America’s economy with his healthcare remake, another one-third with his cap and trade effort, and the rest through various socialistic attempts to subdue capitalism and return all control of production and markets to the government.
History teaches that when government controls the means of production and markets, individual citizens lose all liberties and eventually the tyranny that ushered in government care begins to initiate pogroms to cull the population as in Nazi Germany and the communist regimes of the last century. The death panels so aptly named in the debates become the terrors of the government in practice.
Has America turned the corner and become a full-blown socialist nation on the way toward reenacting the worst excesses of all previous socialistic experiments?
The Heritage report indicates to this writer that America has gone beyond the point of no return and that only a cataclysmic revolt at the ballot box can alter the course we presently tread.
The time has come, and may be well past, for freedom loving patriots of every stripe to work to turn out the liberals who have, by stealth, subverted the American ideals of liberty and personal initiative as enshrined in our founding documents.
This is one case where we must stop this madness for our children if we desire not to bequeath them the status of slaves to the government.
